Action Speed is a derived attribute, calculated from:
Action Speed = 100 + AGI / 3
Effects
Action speed translates into how long a 1.0x action (like an attack or first tier elemental spell) takes by subtracting it from 500. As battles progress and time units pass, some monsters with higher action speeds may perform an additional attack against the player. Conversely, a player who has accumulated enough time units due to their high action speed may take a turn to perform an additional action before the monsters are allowed their action.
Base Action Speeds
Higher numbers indicate slower actions.
- Attack = 1.0x
- Defend / Scan / Focus = 1.0x
- Magic Missile = 1.1x
- First tier of single target spells (Fireball, Icestrike, etc.) = 1.0x
- First tier of AOE spells (Inferno, Snowstorm, etc.) = 1.4x
- AOE spell cast times are reduced per AP point (-0.1x per point, as fast as their respective single target versions when maxed).
- Later tiers of spells are slower to cast.
Burden
Burden is a compromise statistic on equipment. Cloth armor has almost no burden (Phase has none), Light armor has moderate amounts (Shade has less, "of the Shadowdancer" has none), and Plate armor has a lot. Similarly, small weapons (like daggers) have low burden, while heavy weapons (such as maces) have very high burden. Higher quality equipment tends to have less burden than their lower quality counterparts and Ethereal weapons have none. Every point of burden above 20 reduces action speed by 1.
Increasing Action Speed
Besides increasing AGI and wearing low-burden equipment, the other ways to increase action speed in battle are:
- Using the Haste spell. Haste increases base action speed by 50%.
- Unlocking the X-Item, X-Attack, and X-Magic abilities to decrease the base action time of their respective battle actions by 25%.
- Using the title of Destined, which reduces total burden by 3%, or Godslayer, which reduces total burden by 5%.
Note
Base turn duration cannot be higher than 500 or lower than 100 meaning that action speed is capped at 400 after all bonuses and burden are applied.
