An example of a gallery renaming petition that has successfully changed the name of a gallery.

Renaming allows users besides the gallery uploader to change the name of a user uploaded gallery. Typically this makes the gallery easier to identify or find via searches.

Process

  • Renaming normally occurs once a petition reaches 100% power. A user's vote is equal to their mod power. Votes can exceed 100% power (and can continue indefinitely) but this is largely unnecessary.
  • If multiple petitions exist past 100% power, the one with the highest percentage will take priority.
    • For this reason votes are blocked if a petition option is already above 100%, unless there are other alternatives with higher percentages.
  • Users may choose to withdraw or change their vote on a petition at any time. Withdrawing votes can cause a gallery to revert to its original name if no names on the petition are past 99% power.
  • Petitions left incomplete for more than 7 days are automatically purged.
  • Petition options with 0 votes are automatically removed to avoid clutter.

Naming Style

The basic style is as follows:
(Convention Name) [Circle Names (Artist Names)] Title (Parody Names) [Language] [Translators] [Special Indications]

Example

R = (C71) [Gambler Club (Kousaka Jun)] Mahora Gakuen TyuuToubo 3-A (Mahou Sensei Negima!) [English] [SaHa] [Decensored]
J = (C71) [ギャンブラー倶楽部 (香坂純)] MAHORAGAKUEN TYÛTÔBO 3-A (魔法先生ネギま!) [英訳] [無修正]

Rewrites

Rewrites use a more brief style:

R = Title [Language] [Rewrite] [Rewriters]

There is also no need to rename the J field (it is best left blank). Rewrites translated into a new language keep the Rewrite flag.

Anatomy of A Gallery Name

Multiple entries in any portion must be separated with commas.

Convention name
The convention where the work was sold. Use shorthand whenever possible (see below).
Circle name(s)
The group names under which the artist(s) work. Not to be added on works where a circle is not credited. Artists can work under multiple circles or can change at any time; therefore users should never assume the circle name based on the artist name (and vice-versa).
Artist name(s)
Writer names are also expected here for more novel-like works but they should not be tagged.
Title
May include its translated name after a vertical bar if the work is translated (e.g. Nurse wo Kanojo ni Suru Houhou | How to Go Steady with a Nurse). Sub-titles should be separated with a hyphen.
Parody name(s)
Names of the series being parodied. Most common in Doujinshi galleries. Preferred the same as how they are tagged, with a few exceptions (e.g. Ranma 1/2 is preferred even though it is tagged as ranma 12).
Language
Must be the language's equivalent name in English (e.g. [Spanish], [German]). Thai and Vietnamese must include their in-language equivalents ([Thai ภาษาไทย] and [Vietnamese Tiếng Việt]).
Translator(s)
While square brackets are generally preferred {curly braces} and 【sumistuki】 are also acceptable. They are preferred how the translator writes them (such as on their archive files). Not needed in the Japanese name.
Special indication(s)
Decensored, Colorized, Incomplete, Digital, Sample, Textless, etc.

Usage

  • Only known and applicable information should be used. Any unconfirmed information should just be left out. New rename petitions can be put in to amend any missing information.
  • The primary focus of renaming is adding or correcting major data (e.g. serious spelling mistakes, wrong convention). It is recommended not to rename galleries simply to correct minor mistakes in their formatting (e.g. wrong brackets used, improper casing).
  • Unlike tags, names allow for all symbols.
    • Symbols such as "☆" are mandatory for the Japanese name but are optional for the Romanized name.
    • Marus (○) or other censors are to be corrected in the Romanized name if the information being censored is known.
  • Japanese names should follow the publication data page / colophon as well as any information from the covers (including any sub-titles).
  • In cases where the colophon and the title do not match the colophon wins.
  • If the any of the creator/parody names exceed 3 in number, it is preferred to state "Various" instead.
    • Anthologies need no creator indicators.
      • Stand-alone anthologies should simply be "[Anthology] Title".
  • Languages should only be indicated for translated/rewritten works or wherever such languages would not be expected.
    • e.g. "Japanese" is not needed because it is the default language.
  • A space should exist between "Vol." / "Ch." and the number(s) in the Romanized name.
  • Leading zeros are best left out whenever possible unless they appear explicitly; e.g. "Ch. 7" not Ch. 07", "COMIC1☆3" not "COMIC1☆03".
  • If the romaji is obviously spelling out an English word, then use the correct English word instead of the romaji version of it; e.g. "シスター" is "Sister" not "Shisutaa", "ラブ" is "Love" not "Rabu".
    • Shortened or clipped English stays as is.
  • Any chapter collection should include the chapter numbers, except complete ones.
  • Use Title Casing whenever capitalization isn't otherwise specified.
  • Use hyphens for any sub-titles unless otherwise specified.
  • Kanji representing numbers should be romanized as words, not as numbers; e.g. "九" is "Kyuu" not "9".
  • Translator group names supersede individual members' names.
  • Ideographic commas (、) may be used in the Japanese field and do not need to be replaced with ordinary commas.

Do NOT

  • Use "同人誌", "同人CG集", "同人ソフトCG", "同人ゲームCG", "アダルトコミック", "エロ", "コスプレ", "成年コミック", "非エロ", or "総集編"; these are all redundant / irrelevant.
  • Use "Complete", "End", or any other variants to indicate the end of a series or its completeness.
  • Use "Original" or "オリジナル" as a parody. This is already assumed for any gallery without a parody indicator.
  • Use "Raw" as a language. This is already assumed for any gallery without a language indicator.
  • Use publisher or website names unless no other creator names can be associated with the work. Some exceptions apply.
  • Put the date in any brackets if it's part of the name; e.g. "Comic Megastore 2011-10" not "Comic Megastore [2011-10]".
  • Use the gallery name to describe the gallery's contents (rare exceptions exist if the existing title is pejorative or very misleading).
  • Include a translated title in the Romanized portion if the gallery is not in that language unless the translator/uploader has used a title from a third language.
  • Indicate the quality of the work in any fashion; e.g. "Version 2", "Hi-Res", "High Quality", "300 DPI", etc.
  • Use convention indicators for Digital releases.
  • Use alternative alphabetic characters such as full-width for Romanized letters; e.g. "Nudism Zone" not "Nudism Zone".
  • Use the Digital indicator for CG sets as it is redundant.
  • Rename expunged galleries (unless they are due for de-expunging).

Rewards

Renaming galleries (as well as expunging them) rewards points for the Cleanup Toplist. Users receive 5 points for being the first to petition and 1 point for voting on an existing petition. Points are only awarded on the day that the petition is successful and will not be rewarded if the petition does not pass.

Note that repeated poor use of rename petitions may result in the user being banned from using them further.
