Galleries may be searched using various criteria. For a sorted list of fetish tags see Fetish Listing.

Operators

Search terms should be separated by spaces (commas are ignored).

Operator Effect
Quotation " " Exact string search. Everything placed inside a pair of quotation marks is treated as a singular term. Allows for terms with spaces.
Underscore _ Combines terms together to be treated as a singular term. Often used in place of a space.
Asterisk * Wildcard. Can match any sequence of characters (including none), except single characters. May only be used at the end of a term when matching >1 characters.
Percent % Wildcard. Can match any sequence of characters (including none), except single characters. May only be used at the end of a term when matching >1 characters.
Subtract - Exclusion. When placed before a term, prevents search results from including that term. Does not work on slave tags, the master tag should be used.
Tilde ~ OR. When placed before terms, allows matching galleries that contain the tag independently of other OR tags.
Colon : Indicates a namespace which specifies a tag in more detail. Can also be used with the qualifiers tag: weak: title: uploader: uploaduid: comment: favnote: gid:
Dollar $ Appended to tags to perform exact tag searches rather than all strings that start with the term. Only matches tags regardless of search parameters. Can be used as an exclusion to ignore temp tags.

Namespaces

Namespace Simple Alternates
artist a
character c char
cosplayer cos
female f
group g circle
language l lang
male m
mixed x
other o
parody p series
reclass r

Each namespace also has one or more alternatives which may be used in place of the full namespace designation.

Qualifiers

Qualifier Effect
tag: Matches a tag within all namespaces.

tag:rimjob$ will match f:rimjob$ and m:rimjob$

Useful to prevent terms matching against titles.

weak: Matches tags between 1-9 (inclusive) power. It may prefix other tag namespaces, e.g. weak:f:rimjob$. A search without a namespace (e.g. weak:rimjob$) will search all namespaces that the term is present in.

May not be used for exclusions.

When used in an OR search, either all or none of the OR terms must use the weak: qualifier.

It is not possible to search for both active and weak instances of the same tag.

title: Matches terms in both the English/Romaji and Japanese titles.
uploader: Matches all galleries uploaded by a specific user.

Does not return private, deleted, removed, or disowned galleries.

uploaduid: Matches all galleries uploaded by a specific uploader based on their UID.

Useful for searching an uploader that has a special character in their name, which may break a search using uploader:

Does not return private, deleted, removed, or disowned galleries.

gid: Matches to a gallery that uses the ID anywhere in its chain.

If the matched gallery has been updated and has a new ID, the most recent gallery in the chain will be returned in the result.

Does not return private, deleted, or removed galleries.

comment: Matches terms in an uploader comment.
favnote: Matches terms in a favorite note.

May only be used when searching in favorites.

Examples

f:milf m:muscle

Will match galleries containing (at least one) middle-aged female and muscular male.

pokemon -furry

Will match all galleries containing pokemon parody content but without any furry content (either male or female). (The p: namespace does not need to specified for pokemon as no other is assigned to it).

-yaoi -furry

Will match all galleries that do not contain any furry content (either male or female) or any yaoi content.

~yaoi ~furry

Will match all galleries containing either yaoi or furry content. Can return results that contain either one or both tags.

x:group$ ~yaoi ~furry

Will match all galleries that contains groupings between 3 or more mixed genders, as well as either yaoi or furry content.

f:"big breasts" f:"sex toys" f:"double penetration"

Will match galleries containing all 3 tags. To save time shorthand slave tags can be used instead: fbb f:toys fdp

c:sakura$

Will match galleries containing the specific character "sakura" and not others with longer strings such as sakura haruno or sakura kinomoto.

"story arc" "full color"

Will match galleries of the appropriate length and colorization. (The other: namespace does not need to specified for either tag as no others are assigned to them).

title:"comic aun" -title:2007 -title:2008

Will search titles only for galleries that have "comic" followed by a space followed by "aun" (the exact quoted string) in the title and does not also have "2007" or "2008" in the title.

"comic aun" -2007 -2008

Will match anything that has "comic" followed by a space followed by "aun" (the exact quoted string) in the tags or in the title but that does not also have "2007" or "2008" in the tags or in the title.

The matches for "comic aun" and "2007" or "2008" do not both have to occur in the title or in the tags; if "comic aun" is a tag on a gallery that has "2008" in the title that gallery would not show up in the results.

title:"comic" -other:comic$ tag:rimjob$

Will match a gallery that has comic in the title, doesn't have the comic tag, and has either gender performing a rimjob.

Advanced Options

Require Gallery Torrent
Will exclude galleries with no torrents.
Browse Expunged Galleries
Searches expunged galleries. Does not include non-expunged galleries in the results. Does NOT enable the searching of removed, private, or deleted galleries.
Minimum Rating
Searches galleries with a minimum rating of 2-5 stars.
Between ☐ and ☐ pages
Will exclude galleries not within the given filecount range.
  • Note: Excessively narrow page range filters (min > 1000, max < 10, min/max > 0.8, min-max < 20) will return no results.
Disable default filters for ☐ Language ☐ Uploader ☐ Tags
Causes the search to ignore the filters set in My Settings and My Tags.

Navigation

Search Ranges

The range indicator is a series of pips indicating ranges and depth of results. It may be used as an indication of location in the results, as well as quick navigation to arbitrary depth within results.

  • Clicking any pip will let you jump to that range within the search result.
  • The number of pips being highlighted roughly indicates how much of the total results are contained within the viewed page.
  • May be disabled or reenabled through My Settings.

Seeking/Jumping

Results may be navigated by pressing the "<< First", "< Prev", "Jump/Seek", "Next >", and "Last >>" buttons.

  • "<< First" and "Last >>" will bring the user to the most recent or oldest galleries in the results.
  • "< Prev" and "Next >" will bring the user back to the previous page of results when not already on the most recent, or to the next page of results when not already on the oldest.
  • "Jump/Seek" allows to offset results by days, weeks, months, or years, as well as jumping to a specific date or GID.
    • Acceptable values for jumping are a number followed by w, m, y, and g to jump weeks, months, years, or to a specific GID respectively. The direction of the offset is determined by pressing "< Jump" for going to more recent galleries, or "Jump >" for going to older galleries. Entering only a number without a letter will default to seeking in days.
      • Common shortcuts are present and may be used to enter those values quickly.
    • Acceptable values for seeking to a specific date is YYYY, (YY)YY-MM or (YY)YY-MM-DD.
    • Clicking "Use Date Selector" changes the format to allow easier entering of a date. Optionally, when this mode is enabled, clicking the calender icon calendar-picker.png (if present), or the empty space at the right side within the input box, will open up a calendar date picker. Choosing a date on the calendar will automatically fill in the text field with the selected date.
      • Using "< Seek" will take you to the beginning of the chosen days results, using "Seek >" will take you to the oldest of that days results.

File Search

Allows users to find galleries containing images that match or are similar to a given image via upload. Only 1 file can be searched at a time. The uploaded file is NOT stored on the servers. Expunged galleries are included in the results, and tag, language, and uploader filters are default disabled.

Searches for exact image matches operate by comparing the SHA-1 hash of the uploaded file and to the database of all images in the galleries. Monotone (usually black and white) images will not work with Similarity Scan. Newly created galleries do not have their files indexed in real time.

File Search Options

Use Similarity Scan
Enabled by default.
Searches for non-exact matches; better for finding different resolutions, sharpness, or quality.
Only Search Covers
Will only compare the uploaded image to the first images of each gallery.

Search by Hash with URL

It is also possible to directly search for a SHA-1 hash without actually uploading an image through the search interface.

Simply substitute the hash value into the end of the URL shown below.

https://e-hentai.org/?f_shash=Sha-1_Hash_Here

Search Limitations

  • Searches may only be performed once every 3 seconds.
  • Certain keywords are blocked and will yield no results; this is intentional.
  • A maximum of 5 name + tag inclusion terms, a maximum of 10 name + tag exclusion terms, and 10 comment + favnote inclusion + exclusions terms, can be used to search.
  • For both inclusions and exclusions, uploader:, uploadid: and gid: terms aren't limited, but are limited by the max length of the search string (200 chars).
  • For exclusions, title: terms are not limited, but are limited by the max length of the search string (200 chars).

Search Quirks

  • Title matches effectively perform as if the English title and the Japanese title were part of a single string.
  • Certain Unicode characters are not processed well by the search engine, possibly returning a match for the wrong character.[1] Using 2+ characters together will reduce the chances of getting a wrong match.

Title vs Tag Matches

Search terms not prefixed with a namespace (e.g. female: ) or a qualifier (e.g. title:) will match both the English/Romaji and Japanese title fields in addition to tags. It is possible to search title only by prefixing the term with title: or to search tags only by prefixing terms with a namespace or the tag: qualifier.

  • Words may be combined by quotations or underscores, for example: "word1 word2 word3" or word1_word2_word3

When doing unquoted searches with unqualified short and/or non-indexable words (a, an, ai, to, the, and, so, on, and so on), as well as some common adjectives (small, big, huge, gigantic), they will now be automatically appended or combined with the following priority:

If there is a non-qualified search term immediately following the short word, it will be combined with that one.

  • For example, searching for "a dick in a box" without quotes will be searched as "a dick" "in a box".

If there is a non-qualified search term immediately preceding the short word, it will be combined with that one.

  • For example, searching for "novel ai" without quotes will be searched as if it had quotes.

If there are only short words, they will be combined into one quoted word if there is more than one.

  • For example, searching for "ex on the ox" without quotes will be searched as if it had quotes.

If there is just one short word, or the short words are between qualified search terms, it will be searched as an exact tag. A warning is printed in this case.

  • For example, searching for "9s artist:a 2b" without quotes will be searched as "tag:9s$" "artist:a$" "tag:2b$"

For titles the engine may attempt a match anywhere, even in the middle of a word.

  • A search for "berry" could match a title "Berry Blue" or "Strawberry".

For tags the engine will only attempt a match on the whole tag (from the start of the tag) or on a word in the tag (from the beginning of the word).

  • A search for "berry" could match a tag "berry blue" but not "strawberry".

Exact Tag Searching

Searches for certain tags can return results from more tags than intended. This happens to tags that appear as partial strings inside longer tags.

Example: The tag f:wolf will match both wolf and wolf girl. This also impacts slave tags; a search for f:public may return a gallery tagged with f:exhibitionism. This happens because the search for f:public matches "f:public sex" which is slaved to f:exhibitionism.

To avoid this users may search with a dollar sign at the end of the tag to search only for that string (e.g. f:wolf$, f:anal$, etc.).
