Namespaces are designations for tags the indicate their purpose. This is especially used for cases where a tag may have multiple meanings that conflict such as being the name of an artist as well as a character or series name.
Adding
Namespaces can be added manually for tags that can apply to multiple purposes (e.g. both an artist name and a character name).

Example: Tagging "a:mario" would tag "mario" as an artist while tagging "c:mario" would tag "mario" as a character.
