Janitoring a comment as an uploader

Using the uploader comment field instead of posting a regular comment has the following advantages:

• Cannot be downvoted.
• Can be edited at will, even for aged galleries.
• Allows for broader editing, and does not leave behind oft-confusing "Last edited" timestamps.
• Does not count as a regular comment and allows the uploader to perform comment janitoring actions regardless of their mod power.

Posting a regular comment in one's gallery voids this. There is no undo.

How to minimize mod power, what it is used for and why you should keep it low

Power and its uses

Some features require a minimum amount of power to become accessible. That won't prevent people from going apeshit with them, but that does some mitigation.

• Power-restricted tags (12 - completely useless if you don't intend to ever vote on such tags)
• Creating one's own tags (25 - this is extremely dangerous, especially for dyslexic users or when using tags that are very hard to spell; STRONGLY CONSIDER USING THE NAMESPACING THREAD^[1] IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH SPELLCHECKING)

Unless you perform renaming or expunging in a diligent manner (NEVER go for toplists - go for system consistency instead), 1 mod power is enough for everything. If you engage in such activities, you should aim for a maximum of 30 (40 with a base bonus) instead.

The only exception for tagging is power-restricted tags as being unable to spawn tags without first checking them is a priceless blessing for everyone. Frequent misuse by users with absurdly high power for historical reasons is a major annoyance. Please enjoy it while it lasts. Thank you.

Low mod power

This is a rather overkill way to ensure you will never exceed 24 power. If you have already exceeded that, see above. Do NOT deliberately mistag to lower your power, this WILL result in a ban. You have been warned.

1. Keep your donation level to Bronze (+1) if you plan to donate. Namechange abilities are purely cosmetic and old names are available everywhere. The only names that disappear are the ones deleted from the database (this isn't entirely true but just pretend it is).

2. Have a decent/neutral tagging accuracy. Having dodgy 100%/near 100% metrics and/or speeding like crazy guarantees a ban. No one will jump at your throat if your tags are fine regardless of the metrics as people monitoring you (hopefully, by now) know exactly how the system works. Tagging sparingly helps but remember to keep an eye on the My Home meter every now and then.

3. Never touch the HentaiVerse! Immediately seek help if you started, then level as slowly as possible through dawns. It will take 20 days to gain a level from a dawn regardless of your level, which means only leveling from dawns would take you slightly over 19 years to reach the +7 cap.

4. Stay away from the top 100 to avoid getting awards! Cookies are fine as they don't add any power.

5. Use the uploading and H@H systems sparingly. Non-H uploads or artist imagesets (and a single personal themed imageset should you want one) tend to be particularly good as they have very low hits.

6. Low activity on the forums helps a lot. Once you have reached Member status, posting becomes completely optional, and you have until the end of the year to do it if you want to participate in the yearly lottery.

Why you should keep it low

• It's easier to get your own mistakes fixed without having to resort to the drastic veto measures. Remember: you are your best guard - immediately fix your mistakes, don't wait for people to do it in your stead as other mistakes can and will pile up. If you're aware of the damage this can cause and know you are the reason for it, you probably won't need to worry about this. And you are a rare user. Congratulations.
• Higher mod power means you are more susceptible to misuse it. It also draws more attention, and you don't exactly want attention. Especially not in a hall of shame that also serves as a great hitlist^[2].
• Petitions pass faster, which means more work for staffers if done wrong. Due to the sheer amount of petitions, accidents usually happen. And when it comes to things like expunging, this can quickly become a real concern.
