Good tags

Language

Any language except Japanese.
Should be tagged in their English equivalent (e.g. Spanish not Espanol).

Content/fetishes

age progression
Person grows older during the course of the story.
amputee
A person missing limbs is central.

Assfucking.
ballgag
A sex toy where a ball is attached to a strap and used to gag someone's mouth.
bdsm
A type of lifestyle where typically one part is dominant and the other is submissive, though more than two may also be involved.
bestiality
Sex with animals. Not to be confused with furry, which involves human/animal hybrids. Bestiality is strictly sex with animals. Galleries only need to contain one picture of this nature to be given this tag. Will send the gallery pining for the fjords.

big breasts
Generally large breasts. Slightly opinionated, but if breasts are as big as a person's head they can safely be tagged with this.

Sex involving the mouth.

Should not be used for just any kind of body paint, like war paint in some character's face (which could be considered a tag on its own merits). It means that the body paint is done on a larger scale.
bondage
The act and art of being tied up or bound for sexual pleasure.

Breasts growing for some reason or another. Not age progression.
bukkake
The act of being ejaculated on by more than one person.

Usually guys in women's clothing, but may also be the other way around rarely. For the latter, it should only be tagged if there's a clear intent to make the woman dress like a guy, for example for story reasons.

The act of becoming pregnant. Should obviously be relevant to the story, and not just used whenever someone blows their load inside a woman.

kunoichi
Female ninja.

Milk-squirting tits.

blonde
Blonde hair.
brunette
Dark hair. Don't use this for Asian girls.
downblouse
Clear view down (or up) a woman's shirt.
gay
Sex between two males. Use yaoi for the drawn kind.
hardcore
Explicit depictions of sexual acts such as vaginal or anal penetration.
lesbians
Sex between two females. Use yuri for the drawn kind.
redhead
Red hair.
upskirt
Clear view up a woman's skirt. Way too common in manga to use it there.

Gallery descriptors

3d
Usually computer-generated imagery. Not for real porn, to say the least.

For galleries that contain images with several frames.

artbook
A collection of images and graphics of a given topic from a published book. Not for unofficial art collections.

full color
All the pages are colorized. If only one chapter out of two is colorized, the gallery is not full color. Does not apply to CG sets or 3D galleries since it is expected.

rewrite
Means that someone has filled in their own story in the blank speech bubbles, regardless of how the real story went. Because of the restricted format, rewrites are seldom considered to be of high quality, but some people might still find it better than no story/kanji.
uncensored
Either published uncensored or later de-censored, the gallery is not censored at any point. Not needed on western galleries since it is expected.

Variables

Cirle
Name of the circle that published the manga.
Convention
Popular conventions like Comiket are where many doujinshi are released. For these, the tagging standard would be c#, with the # denoting exactly at which convention the release took place.
Mangaka
Names of the artists who drew parts or all of the manga. Note that these names are often pseudonyms, but credited in the manga.
Original series
Names of the series that appear or are being parodied. Parodies should be obvious and relevant. For instance a cosplayer cosplaying a certain character.
Participant
Names of characters or people (such as the character cosplayers are cosplaying as) participating in the gallery. Note that only female characters apply unless the gallery contains males participating in yaoi or that become genderbent.
Character names are preferred in full and in their western order (given name(s) followed by family name; e.g. hinata hyuga). Spelling is best checked for on Wikipedia but there are exceptions. See here for a partial list.

Note that the title is not something to be tagged unless it is otherwise an already appropriate tag (e.g. if the title also happens to be the name of a participant, the original series, or the artist's name).

Note: This list does not include all bad tags, but some examples that help people get the general idea.

Japanese
It is expected.

Content/fetishes

gay
While it can be used for real porn, stick to yaoi for drawn content.
lesbian
Same as above, stick to yuri for drawn content.
microphone
It's not a common fetish, and when used it is likely that it has no sexual connection to the gallery.
nymphomaniac
It is expected.
sex
It is expected.
skirt
Such common things aren't useful for searches.
vaginal
It is expected.

censored
It is expected.
comiket
Use the variable c# instead. Comiket alone is not a good search term.
hot
A personal opinion, not descriptive.
garbage

Categories

Category tags should only be used to change an improperly categorized gallery. Once it receives 100 power the category will switch to the given tag. If two tags are present (which there should be no need for) the one with the higher power will be used. Do not vote up these tags after they have served their purpose of re-categorizing.

Other

In general, do not tag something unless it has a fair amount of presence in the gallery. As an example, if it exists in 8+ images of an 80-image gallery, it would suffice for tagging. 3 images or less and it should not be tagged at all even in a small gallery.

An exception to this exists for tags like lolicon and scat which only require 1 applicable image to be present in the gallery regardless of the gallery's size. Such exceptions are noted as such above.

  • Do not use real porn fetish tags such as hardcore on drawn content galleries.
  • Do not tag asian on Asian Porn galleries, it is expected.
  • Do not tag a person's nationality such as korean, these tags are used specifically for languages only.
  • Do not tag black and white as it is expected for many galleries. The only exception is for when it's referring to the creator's name. [1] [2] [3]
  • Do not use full color on 3D, CG, or CG-like galleries as it is expected.
  • Do not guess a character's name, there is a partial list that can assist you here.
  • Do not use a language tag on a general Image Set gallery unless a great majority of it (75%+) contains dialogue in that language.
  • Do not tag an animal names on furry galleries. For example, dog on a gallery featuring furries of the dog variety; unless an actual dog is involved sexually (and thus the bestiality tag applies) simply leave it with just the furry tag.
  • Please do not vote up tags of a temporary nature like incomplete past too much power (a minimum of 10 is acceptable). Should the tag become no longer applicable (e.g. the user completes the comic), the tag must be voted down.

Variables

Year
The release year alone isn't needed. It might be paired with the name of a monthly publication, but on its own it is completely useless.

What are slave tags?

Slave tags are tags that have been grouped together under one dominating master tag. Searches for these tags will yield results from all tags within the same group. (e.g. searching for "dildo" will result in all galleries tagged with "sex toys")

Why should I tag?

It helps people find the things they are looking for in the galleries.

Tagging earns you points toward a toplist position and the rewards that come with it. Scoring works like this: You score 3 points for adding a new tag and 1 point for voting on a tag. Tags that are contained within the gallery's name also only give 1 point each. You can score for up to 5 tags on any one gallery. New tags are given priority for score. So if you added 3 tags and voted on 2 or more existing ones you would get 11 points (3*3 + 2*1).

Known Issues

The search engine includes shorter strings in larger strings containing the term (e.g. "job" will give results including "blowjob" and "titjob"). Tags can also be grouped with other tags (titjob is part of the paizuri tag group). Thus the search results for one tag can include galleries containing the larger tags' grouped tags. Thus, in order to search for just galleries that use the shorter tag one must use an exclusionary search command.
