I was considering starting another page on equipment "suffixes", but figured we should decide if that is the term we want to use. (I know Cmal did not necessarily like it).--Boggyb 16:40, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
I don't like it because I feel there's a more appropriate term. I just can't think of what it is (sometimes I've referred to them as "enchantments" on the forums, but that's not necessarily adequate, either). --cmal 18:16, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
There are two reasons I think the term "suffix" is used. 1) It comes at the end of the name which is, of course, the appropriate location for a suffix on a word. 2) It reminds people of Diablo 2 which either officially or unofficially used that term. An argument could be made that the intertexuality (stealing Mikhail Bakhtin's term. Hey, maybe my $80K liberal arts degree was not a waste of money!) of using the term "suffix" would bring about more comprehension than a more technically correct word.--Boggyb 19:48, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know about this intertextuality thing, but if suffix was good enough for Diablo, its good enough for me. --cmal 01:34, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- The final question is, do we think that needs its own page, or should we add a description of their effects (I doubt we have the range of them, but thats ok) here.--Boggyb 21:11, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think it warrants its own page. What I was thinking was a table with a column for all the suffixes, a column for whether it can occur in weapons and one for armor, and a fourth column for their effects. The Armor section needs to be reworked, too, and more in-depth info about the different weapons and armor needs to be added. --cmal 22:05, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
